In 2018, Johnson & Johnson engaged ECI to design and conduct a continuing education programme to equip the retail pharmacists with the necessary knowledge and skills to approach and engage smokers on smoking cessation.

The Solution Designed by ECI

Managing Addictions with EASY with SUSAN

With a wealth of experience in health coaching and smoking cessation counselling, Susan created her EASY with SUSAN coaching framework which incorporates motivational interviewing skills to make talking about lifestyle changes easier for the healthcare professionals as well as making the act of changing one’s lifestyle for better health outcomes easier for individuals.

A highly interactive and engaging session was designed for retail pharmacists from various organisations including Guardian Pharmacy and Watsons to equip them with the knowledge and skills to use motivational interviewing skills to approach and engage smokers on smoking cessation while the latter was at the pharmacy. It was so well-received that Johnson & Johnson approached ECI again in 2019 to design and conduct another continuing education programme to strengthen the pharmacists’ skills to further engage smokers in smoking cessation conversations. ECI designed the Deep Dive session for these pharmacists after the 2018 foundational knowledge and skills building session.

2020 continuing education programme was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, ECI was invited the third time to design and conduct another continuing education programme for the pharmacists. ECI designed it as the virtual case conference so that more pharmacists could attend in face of the Covid-19 pandemic. The case conference not only equipped the pharmacists with new knowledge but also presented the opportunity for the pharmacists to share their challenges in smoking cessation counselling and get practical advice on how to manage such challenges.
