EASY with Susan Coaching Series & Motivational Interviewing

Knowing does not equate to Doing!

Health Coaching Skills

As creatures of habits, unhealthy lifestyle habits make it difficult for most patients to (decide to) change or stop their unhealthy habits, especially when the undesirable health impacts are not visibly evident or understood. In general, most individuals are aware of the changes that they need to undertake to live well with and better manage their chronic ailments. Yet, that knowledge does not automatically translate into healthier lifestyle habits. Behaviour change on the part of the patient is highly critical for chronic care management to be successful, and the traditional model of a doctor or provider telling the patient what to do has not been working. Successful chronic disease care is about working collaboratively with clients to both educate on what changes need to happen, and also giving them the skills and confidence to be able to make those changes.

Develop your counselling and health coaching skills and style to better work with clients with addictive behaviours such as smoking or to better help clients with chronic diseases to pursue lifestyle changes with our EASY with Susan Health Counselling and Coaching Skills training courses.

Health coaching stems from a combination of evidence-based clinical interventions such as motivational interviewing (MI) to facilitate behavior change, the transtheoretical model of change, SMART goal setting, active listening, and preventive medicine.
