Coaching and Change Communication

Learn how to apply Motivational Interviewing to enhance the health, performance and communication with others

 

This course is for anyone who works with people – Healthcare Professionals, Community Workers, and even team leaders and managers. It will help you in developing essential communication skills to build positive interpersonal rapport and relationships which are critical for change to happen. Every participant will leave equipped with tested. and practical strategies to approach patients, clients, and team members to talk about and motivate them towards behavioural change.

Susan Tan has spent years lecturing in healthcare at Asia’s Leading Medical School, NUS and NTU School of Social Sciences. She’s an Executive member of the Society of Behavioural Health.

In the last 20 years, Susan has conducted over 1000 training seminars on health, wellbeing, aged care and healthcare and audited hundreds of work training programs for the Work Development Authority Singapore (now Workforce Singapore).

  • Mastering the use of OARS in a behavioural change conversation
  • Motivational Interviewing practice sessions
  • Using the DARN CAT to elicit and strengthen change talk
  • Recognising readiness to change through effective & efficient use of change rulers
  • Making a clear action plan to reaffirm commitment

  • 12-Hour: 6-hour X 2-day

  • Susan set up and headed the Career Coaching Unit at MOM in 2000.
  • ECI has been in the business of life coaching and health coaching since 2003. It has helped hundreds of individuals to make changes in their lives or careers, to resolve life challenges, and to make lifestyle changes for better health outcomes.
  • ECI has developed and conducted numerous capability building programmes on coaching skills for executives and leaders since 2007.
  • In 2020, ECI coached close to 80 young consultants from Deloitte Japan for a better headstart in their consulting career.
  • Susan has been teaching third-year medical students at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine on using motivational interviewing skills for health coaching conversations with patients since 2015. She also teaches health coaching to the students of the MSc in Applied Gerontology at NTU in 2021.
