Weekly Mindfulness Practice for Peace and Happiness

 

Working from home coupled with home-based learning has been stressful to most. Frequent change in regulations, policies and protocols are not only frustrating but stressful.   

Practising mindfulness is even more important in today’s world where we need to remain calm yet alert to impending changes that are happening everywhere – in all parts of the world, all disciplines and industries at a speed never before. Mindfulness results in relaxation, peace and happiness. The practice of mindfulness helps one let go of the need to be perfect or to evaluate and control one’s practice and life, like in the laboratories. Through practising mindfulness, one learns to not judge life’s perfections & imperfections. Mindfulness is a practice to direct and strengthen present moment focus & attention inwards, noting & watching – without judging – the breath, body sensations, feelings, & thoughts, without acting upon them or changing them. Mindfulness frees you. Learn to accept & embrace that life will have imperfections or be out of control from time to time and to intentionally choose the kinder response towards oneself and others at every moment.

Programme Contents

1) Through a series of 30-min online Zoom talk, participants will learn techniques including doing a body scan, mindful breathing exercises for relaxation and stress relief, reframing of thoughts and emotions management, mindful eating, and mindful walking.
2) Get their weekly dose of social contact via online session to practice the mindful breathing with other like-minded individuals and share issues and challenges regarding their practice for that week while maintaining social distancing.
3) For those who need more help, the option to speak with certified psychologists via video-conferencing in the comfort of their homes is available.

  • Our Founder has been practising mindfulness for her psychological and emotional wellbeing for 3 decades. Having published her first book in 2018 – Add MEANINGS To Your Life Every Day: Keep Dementia At Bay. During the Covid-19 circuit breaker in Singapore, she wrote her second book: DIY Happiness Toolkit: Your Practical Guide for a Happier Life in the New Normal to help everyone reframe the bleak situation and to strengthen their resilience and move on with life with a sense of purpose and joy.
  • ECI has developed Rethink 50 series of workshops for CFS in 2016 which equips the workforce as well as job seekers with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the need for change and look at change as an opportunity. This helps prepare them for life transitions. There are also contents to connect better with others socially for their social wellbeing. To-date, ECI has trained more than 2000 participants and have been receiving very good feedback and recommendations from the participants. Some participants shared that they were able to have a good night sleep after practising the mindful breathing exercise taught in class and that they have never slept so well in their lives. In 2019, PSD decided to offer it to the whole public service.
  • ECI has been invited to give talks and workshops on mental wellbeing, mindfulness and resilience by organisations including Medtronic, Society of Behavioural Health, WINGS, CFS, RSAF, Active Sg, Football Association of Singapore, Renci Hospital, Institute of Mental Health, and Guang Yang Secondary School.
